Meet Jersey. Jack Russell Rescue of Ontario

Hello, my name is Jersey and I am a sweet fella of 9 years old. I am looking for a new home cause I got kicked out when the kids grew up and moved out, went to stay with one of them, but now she is going to be away all the time with new job! I am a very nice boy, and get along well with cats and doggies too! As you can see by my reading ability, I am very clever, and can pick up new tricks in the blink of an eye! I can guard things and people if you let me, but if you show me that I don't need to and get rewards when I don't, then I wont. I sometimes get scared of strangers running up to me, but who wouldn't? Nice strangers are just fine. I am sad that I need to look for a new home at this stage of my life, but hopeful that some nice person out there feels for me and wants to give a nice guy a second chance at happiness. I love walkies, and promise to take you on lots of them too! We can keep each other in great shape!

Spayed/Neutered • Up-to-date with routine shots • House trained • Prefers a home without: young children

Meet Jude - Jack Russell Rescue of Ontario

*** URGENT - Owner is ill and in and out of hospital so poor Jude has no one to take care of her! **** Jude is an 11 year old female who is in great shape and spirits. Jude is a very loving dog that loves to be near her people. She has lived in an apartment her entire life and quickly warms into the hearts of her neighbors and friends. Jude LOVES to chase a ball and will retrieve for a treat until she is exhausted. She loves to go for walks and explore new places. She is as feisty as a young jack and does require exercise. She is good with other dogs but won't tolerate being jumped on or bullied. Jude is dearly loved by her owner and has been his loving companion her entire life. Unfortunately he has advanced health issues that now prevent him from walking Jude and giving her the exercise she needs. Jude is a perfect companion for someone looking for an easy dog who loves a good time.

Jude is: Spayed/Neutered • Up-to-date with routine shots • House trained • Prefers a home without: children under five

Meet Rilee - Jack Russell Rescue of Ontario

Hi there, I am Rilee and I am 3 years old. Here is what my foster mommy has to say about me: "Rilee is a 3-year-old tri-color Jack Russell,Rilee is not used to meeting new people, but is getting better. Once Rilee knows you, she is a snuggly, friendly, bundle of love! She is good with kids, other dogs and cats (as long as the cat stands up for itself!) Rilee has a weakness for the garbage can buffet and needs to go to a home who will work with this habit. Rilee has a very good off-leash recall and will walk on a leash politely. Her sit is coming along steadily. She is equally happy romping through the grass, as she is curled up beside her human on the couch. Please give this loving, little girl a wonderful home!" Adoption fee $250

Rilee is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Dexter - Jack Russell Rescue of Ontario

Hi there, my name is Dexter and I am 9 years old, and about 17 lbs. I am looking for a new home due to young children in the house now that I don not get along with... I find them WAY too unpredictable, you know? As you can see, I don't mind the kitty who lives here, and we have another doggie here too, and I am cool with that as well! Like most jacks, I have met some dogs I am not very fond of, but many that I was as well! I love to chase a ball, play with stuffies and sqweekies, and love nature too! I would like a nice calm home with adults who aren't going to shut me off in another room or a crate all the time, I just want to be around you, you'know? I need to learn that I am the doggie of the house, but with positive training like treats, not being scolded etc. I was left at home alone alot in my first few years and so would like a home where I will not be alone all day long... If you think you might have room in your house and heart for Me, please don't be shy ok? I am very healthy, neutered, and all my shots are up to date! Adoption fee $200

Home without children (< 5 yrs old)
Dexter is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered

Meet Raymond - Rescue JRT

Why hello there, I am Raymond. I am a laid back and quiet fellow who just wants a place to share all my love and play and cuddle. I am nine years old, and love to play with my foster brother and my toys.. I love to go for my walkies, but also love to hang out and watch tv with you on the couch. I can sleep in a crate, but would way prefer to cuddle on your bed if you let me. I like to play with toys and can do so with you or alone... I play soccer with my tennis balls sometimes and it makes people laugh! I try to get in a good wrestling work out of two with my foster dog brother... we have a GREAT time together! I walk great on a leash and hardly ever bark. I even pop my head into my leash for you to make it easier to get ready to go! I am an all around wonderful calm lad who would make a great companion for almost any household! Maybe not really little kids, they might overwhelm me, but otherwise, I am a loyal, obedient, well trained, quiet, loving boy ready to move on and get over this horrible year in my life!
***Please consider some of us more experienced jacks! We have SOOO much love to give, and come as a great package deal! For a reduced adoption fee, you not only get more lovin' than you can handle, but we come already trained, housebroken, calmer, and with some little surprise tricks and talents sometimes! We love to cuddle, and aren't always as concerned with what's going on our that window...we are just happy to be in your warm loving home or on your welcoming lap! We've seen the other side of the fence and are just so very thrilled to be on this side! More mature poochies usually settle in faster and easier as well, and won't overwhelm you with needing to be taught everything! Please don't pass us by just cause we aren't teeny puppies anymore...like wine, we only get better with age!

Raymond is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Far too many JRT's in Russell Rescue

It saddens me to see the amount of Jack Russells in rescue at this time, so I've decided to feature a different rescue on this blog on a regular basis. The Jack Russell Rescue of Ontario is a fantastic organization run by dedicated volunteers who help re home unwanted and abused JRTs.
Please visit:

for more information on adoption and to see the other terriers that are listed.

Meet Ralphie!

Hiya, I'm Ralphie, a funny boy of only 1 year old. I was born on July 20th 2008 and have been with my mommy here since. I need a new home cause me and the older jrt in the home are not getting along now. There's another dog here too but he and I are cool, plus I LOVE other doggies to play with and wrestle with, so it's not that I don't dig other dogs, just him! I am happy and friendly and love to play tag and give kisses to other poochies and bounce around for new people! I am my mommy's little shadow, always under the desk when she is on the computer, or waiting nicely on the bath mat snoozing when the showers. I love to play with a ball, or chase water from the hose...sometimes I also just like to lay on the deck and soak up some rays! I like to be held, or flop across your lap while you watch tv too! I am fixed and UTD with all my shots! There simply just isn't anything bad to say about me! Wanna come be my friend and play???
Spayed/neutered, UTD with shots, house trained

JRTRO Trial Parade of Rescues June 6th

Some great little dogs were present for the Parade of Rescues at the JRTRO trial June 6th. Great dogs, and wonderful people who've opened their homes and adopted these little guys from the Jack Russell Rescue of Ontario. My sister and I were lucky to capture some great pictures from this event. (the images marked J.Deans were taken by myself and the ones marked G.Deans were taken by my sister)

All who attended the parade were awarded ribbons for their participation. As well, they got to tell the judge all about their little guys. What a great way to get people to learn more about the rescue, and the fantastic dogs that come through its doors.

How could you resist this face? Or any of the others for that matter. Thanks to the JRTRO for putting on a great trial!!

JRTRO Trial June 6th

On a beautiful sunny, spring Saturday, this Saturday just past actually, Brandy and I competed in the JRTRO half of the JRTCC/JRTRO Twin Trials (June 6 & 7). It was the perfect day to be outside for 9 hours in a row. Lots of friendly faces, lots of food and lots of fun.

*Edit* The JRTRO is the Jack Russell Terrier Rescue of Ontario - helping unwanted jacks find new forever homes. Proceeds from this trial and the raffle go to support the rescue. A Parade of Rescues was held before the conformation began, and my sister and I were able to get some great shots of the rescue dogs, some of which will be featured in the rescue newsletter. We were also able to help out by volunteering to assist with agility for the day. Photos of the parade of rescues  and others from the trial will be posted a little later. www.russellrescue.org

We competed in barn hunt for the first time, placing 3rd in her division. Actually, I was quite happy with her performance as she ran right to the tube that contained the rat. Unfortunately, since we haven't played before, I made her check another tube before calling time, increasing her time and decreasing her placing, but she did well. Now I am aware of what to look for when she's signaling, so we will play again!

Trailing and locating anyone? Yes, we played that too, but we shall never speak of it again. Let's just say that the grass was too prickly for the princess and she wasn't into following a scent, but rather following me and waiting to be picked up - yeesh. I could see it in her face, "come on, let me get into the arms ... into the arms? Oh pleeeaaasssee?"

(*Note: "into the arms" really means into the arms - she's been taught to place herself on outstretched hands to be picked up, and believe me, it's come in handy during an outing in the woods when I got caught on a rather large log and needed to get her over it somehow - that, in itself, is another story.)

And agility ... oh agility. The little bugger ran perfect (or as close to perfect as one can get), taking Trial Champion for agility on the Saturday! First in Agility II, 2nd in Gamblers and 3rd in Jumpers. She looked happy, comfortable and like she was really enjoying herself - yeah for the new knee!
(Please note all agility photos, excluding the ribbon photo, are courtesy of Gabrielle Deans, sister, and personal photographer)

Looking very happy

The Third...

...and final. This is a peak at the third drawing in my "Dogs of Moron" series. A little female having a siesta in some shade on the crocodile farm that we visited.

The drawings are coming along...though not one is finished yet - not to worry, I'm still working on them, they are my "lunch-time" projects. Something to keep me occupied while I sit in my four-wheeled, automatic, air-conditioned lunch room, passing the time, and hoping the afternoon will go faster than the morning did. I don't like to wish time away, it's sad somehow, but I do like to wish work time away, it seems appropriate enough.

And this little bugger wowed me on Saturday with her performance at her first AAC agility trial back since her knee surgery in December.

She ran fast, accurately and hung on to my every word. 2 out of 4 qualifying runs is more than ample for me, especially since she is running on a "home-made" knee.

My vet did a fantastic job, and I really couldn't be happier with how things have turned out so far.

So now, after another massage for the little dog - yes you heard right, this little JRT is spoiled I will definitely admit that (and her massage therapist is wonderful - even if Brandy isn't happy being rubbed), we are looking forward to the upcoming JRTRO trial in June and another AAC/CPE agility trial following that.

She's a busy little dog, what can I say?
